Hello all,

I wanted to share with all of you that City High School in Iowa City
has announced an opening for a Debate Coach. (This is not an opening
at Iowa City WEST but Iowa City - City High.)

The retirement of an English teacher at City High has created this
opening. Currently, there is not a teacher-coach on staff at City.
Current members of the City High debate convinced their principal to
search for a debate coach to be his replacement. The application and
more information about the job can be found here:
https://iowacity.schoolrecruiter.net/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=787. A
bachelor's degree is required and they are looking for an English
teacher, so teaching certification is likely a requirement (but they
may be willing to hire someone to teach on a provisional license for a
while, if someone expressed interest.)

As most of you know, I do not currently work at City - I'm at West -
the cross town "rival" :) - so I would not be able to answer many
specific questions you may have about the position, but I do work in
the district and live in Iowa City, so I could answer any questions
you may have about the school district and the area.

A few things worth nothing - the current principal is in his first
year at City and is very committed to rebuilding and growing the
debate program at City High. The Iowa City area, with a population of
about 100,000, is a wonderful place to live - it is the home of the
University of Iowa and consistently ranks high on lists of best small
cities to live in the United States. The community is incredibly
supportive of education - many of the students in the ICCSD are the
sons and daughters of UI professors. ICCSD teacher pay is, on
average, the best in the state of Iowa and the cost of living in Iowa
City is quite affordable. City High is a 4A schools with a student
population of approximately 1400.

Let me know if you have any questions - I will try my best to answer
them or put you in touch with someone who can.
