Hello, I'm posting this on behalf of Cathy Murphree, Assistant Head of
School for Academic Affairs and Provost at the Hockaday School in Dallas,
TX.

*The Hockaday School is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Debate and
Forensic Activities, Middle and Upper Schools, beginning with the 2011-2012
school year.*

The Hockaday School educates young women to assume positions of
responsibility and leadership in a rapidly changing, interconnected world.
Hockaday teachers strongly support single-gender education and understand
how girls learn best. They value and respect their colleagues, further
School-wide, divisional, and departmental goals, and demonstrate a
commitment to the ideals expressed in the Tenets of Faculty Excellence (see
our website).

The Hockaday School Debate program has consistently earned top ratings and
been highly visible at the national level. In three of the last five years,
finalists in the Lincoln Douglas debate at the National Forensic League
National Championship have been Hockaday students, twice bringing home first
place. Hockaday has also consistently qualified numerous students in Lincoln
Douglas debate for the Texas State Championship.

*The ideal candidate will *hold at minimum a Bachelors degree; have had
experience debating and coaching debate with the primary focus of Lincoln
Douglas and Public Forum; be willing to travel to local, regional, and
national competitions; and have experience coaching and mentoring students
while building their confidence and expertise. He/she will be dedicated to
and enjoy working with students in and out of the classroom and to building
an effective working relationship with the Director, supporting team travel
arrangements and assisting with communications with parents. Hockaday
teachers also serve as advisors to small groups of students and are expected
to be involved with students in co- and extracurricular activities, as well
as in the life of the institutional community.

This full-time position will involve teaching debate classes, analyzing
cases, coaching practice rounds, and chaperoning students on debate trips.
The Assistant Director will also help organize and host Hockaday?s Debate
Tournament in November.

*Job Responsibilities*
The Assistant Director of Debate and Forensic Activities reports to the Lead
Chair in Fine Arts and is responsible for coordinating with the Director on
aspects of administration, operation and coaching of the competitive debate
and public forum teams at The Hockaday School, with specific duties to
include the following:

? Nurturing a program which continues to attract new debaters and nurtures
the interest and talent of current students
? Mentoring young women in a competitive environment
? Creating opportunities for students at multiple levels of commitment to
debate; balancing the academic demands of the school with the students?
participation in debate and public forum
? Teaching and coaching Lincoln-Douglas debaters
? Continuing to develop the Public Forum activity
? Traveling with debaters to tournaments around the country
? Sustaining the Introduction to Debate offered in seventh and eighth grade
? Coordinating work with the Director and adjunct coaches
? Helping to administer the budget, which involves allocation/spending
decisions, accounting documentation, and budget planning
? Assisting with the administration and organization of the Hockaday
Invitational Debate Tournament
? Assisting with organization of a final Team Dinner with awards and honors
for participants
